Police, Fire, and Recreation Minutes- Written Reports due to snow 02/04/14

                                                                         VILLAGE OF EVENDALE, OHIO
10500 Reading Road
Fire Committee Report
February 5th , 2014

SCBA Update i) We have been granted an extension with FEMA due to federal government issues with testing and shut downs. New date to purchase by is June 18, 2014.
ii) We have some concerns about the six month extension as no new date has been set by the federal government to begin the testing of the 2013 equipment.
iii) We are prepared to request another extension if needed.
iv) We have two manufacturers, Scott and MSA ready to bid the equipment (state bid). These are the two largest market share providers of SCBA’s in the U.S. and both make outstanding equipment.

Ambulance Update i) We have completed our research of the manufacturers and have decided that the best product for our needs will come from either, Braun Ambulance or Horton Ambulance. Both companies are in Ohio, which is good for service and delivery.
ii) We have specific exceptions from Horton and are waiting on the same from Braun. Once we have this, we will be ready to ask for bids from these two companies. Both companies are on the state bid so the process will not be slowed by a formal bid process.
iii) Once a bid is accepted, the build should take 4 – 6 months.
iv) The problems with the current ambulances have been corrected, but there is no guarantee on the repairs. We continue to monitor there situations and take corrective actions as needed.

Radio Update i) Motorola will no longer guarantee parts for our radios after the end of 2018. However, it is likely that some parts will still be available, but no guarantee. In no way does this affect the current functionality of the radios.
ii) If Hamilton County Communications Center upgrades the main radio infrastructure (possibly in the next 1-2 years), it will not affect the functionality of the radios.
iii) Therefore, at this time we will continue to apply for grant funding for replacing our radios. If a grant is not awarded, we are working on a plan to purchase new radios over a time period of several years to differ the cost to the Village. As the date above gives us time to prepare a plan and apply for multiple grants.

1) Sale of Quad – We appropriated $6000 for a new quad. The old one needs too much work/maintenance to make it serviceable. A dealer has offered us $2000 in trade for the old one. We believe trading it in will be more profitable than putting it on the auction web-site. In the past, because the use of the web-site is required by ordinance, we have gotten an ordinance to circumvent it, and we would need one now.

2) A purchase order has been submitted for the purchase of 2 new cruisers

3) With the assistance of the CFO, we have been pursuing on-line payments for Mayor’s Court fines. We are nearing completion of that endeavor and hope to be online by March

4) Several officers have developed a community service survey for both residents and businesses. We are in deciding as to whether to put it in the Mayor’s newsletter, or put it on-line and have the request to visit the site and take the survey in the Mayor’s newsletter. The goal is to have the broadest dissemination.

5) Under ORC 2981.12, proceeds from unclaimed and/or forfeited property go to general fund and 25% has to go to a citizens reward fund. Hence, since we sold an unclaimed item was sold on the auction web-site, Crime Stoppers is due a payment of $346.87, for which we will need an ordinance approving such payment.

6) I have not been given any updates on SportsPlus. Jack and Don Mercer met with Martini and the perspective tenant, but I dont have any information on the outcome of the meeting

                                                                                Recreation Department

1. The Department plans to present the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan to the Planning Commission during their March meeting, instead of the February meeting.

2. John McGovern, well-known ADA consultant, was to speak at the February 3rd Meet and Greet event. John was involved in a minor automobile accident the night before, and had to cancel his appearance. We hope to have John speak at an event in the near future.

3. Cynthia, along with Richard Drake, met with Lynne and me to discuss setting-up program payment fee links on the village website. We are going to test a few programs, with their fees, evaluate how the system performs, and what type of response we receive.

4. The “new” Stairmaster Stepper has arrived to the Fitness Center.

5. There were over 300 people at the recent “Snow Much Fun” special event.

6. This past Saturday’s Wellness Expo, at the Recreation Center, South Gym, and organized by Lifestyle Essentials, LLC, was very well attended. The event had some exposure on a local television station.

7. Ken Puthoff is receiving the Coach of the Year award, tonight, at the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association’s annual conference.
